Pregnancy Loss & Postpartum support

Pregnancy Loss

A pregnancy loss during any stage of pregnancy is very emotionally painful and can turn a woman’s world upside down. While often it is immensly difficult to cope with such loss, emotional healing can be attained over time.  Psychotherapeutically, I provide specialized counseling for women and their partners who suffer miscarriage, stillbirth, pregnancy complications, fetal anomalies, and premature delivery. I also offer support as women and couples navigate the delicate process of trying to conceive again following a single or multiple pregnancy loss/es.

PREGNANCY LOSS SUPPORT GROUP

Whether through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, or neonatal death, the loss of a baby causes many emotions. The Pregnancy Loss Support Group provides a safe, nurturing environment for those touched by pregnancy loss.

This six-week group is designed for Women who are having difficulty coping with their pregnancy loss. It offers a supportive place to share the emotional pain of miscarriage, better understand the grieving process, explore useful coping skills and regain hope about the future.

Postpartum Depression & Support

Women are more at risk of experiencing emotional difficulties following the birth of a baby than at any other time in their lives.  Postpartum distress can impact up to 20% of new mothers and can occur any time during the first year after giving birth.

During the first year after childbirth, many women experience:

  • Anxiety
  • Excessive worries and irritability
  • Feeling overwhelmed or out of control
  • Depression
  • Sadness or low mood that is uncharacteristic for you
  • Helplessness
  • Fearfulness
  • Guilt or fear about not being a good mother
  • Shame
  • Difficulty sleeping (even when baby is a sleep)
  • Feeling numb or disconnected from baby

If you are struggling with any emotional difficulties after giving birth, therapy can be a most effective way to gain support and acquire tools to combat this difficult period.

As a trained perinatal and postpartum therapist, I support you to take charge of the way you think and feel during the postpartum period. My approach also focuses on your relationships and the personal changes that come with having a new baby; as such I support you and your partner as you adjust to the demands that new parenthood generates.

For women experiencing postpatrum difficulties accompanied by a fear of traveling outside their home, I provide home visits so that therapy and support can be offered directly at home.

POSTPARTUM STRESS SUPPORT GROUP

This group provides a safe & supportive environment for sharing the feelings and concerns associated with the post-birth period. Participants are helped to process the experiences associated with newly acquired motherhood and gain the coping skills to combat the challenges that arise after the birth of their babies.
